Brailler Service and Support.

In operation since the late 1950’s, the Perkins Brailler® Repair Center is located on the campus of Perkins School for the Blind in the same building where all the parts for Perkins Braillers are made.

Instructions for sending your Perkins Brailler® for repair:

• Box brailler safely. Allow 2 inches between widest part of the brailler (feed knows) and the box. While a brailler box with inserts is ideal, you may also use newspaper to pad the brailler. Don’t use Styrofoam peanuts, as they will damage the interior of the brailler.
• Include a description of what needs repair.
• Include your contact information so we can contact you to notify you of the repair charges.

• Braillers usually take about a week to be repaired and costs range from $80-$120 for most repairs.

Interesting facts about the Perkins Brailler® Repair Center.

• The repair center is also used for teaching brailler repair classes to people from all over the world.
• There is a board in the repair center with interesting items that have been retrieved from Perkins Braillers®, including plastic animals, a mirror, money, and a rope.
• The three worst braillers ever sent for repair were a brailler that had been rolled between a train and a cement platform, used as a chuck for the wheel of a truck on an incline, and a brailler that had been shot with a 357 magnum 3 times. The train and truck braillers needed to be replaced, but the one with the gun shots was repaired and sent back to the owner.
