What is the Next Generation Perkins Brailler?

The NEW Next Generation™  Perkins Brailler® is designed to be quieter, lighter and more comfortable for brailling. Plus, it includes functions you asked for a built-in eraser, a way to read the page easily while writing, a shorter keystroke requiring less force, and margin guides on the front rather than the back panel. And there’s more… it comes in fun colors, has tactile design elements and is more environmentally-friendly. Go to http://www.perkinsbrailler.org/ for more information, to download the Next Generation song and to see the Next Generation video.

We have resellers on every continent. Please refer to the online list of authorized resellers.

How do I become an authorized reseller of braillers?
We are very interested in expanding our base of resellers, particularly in countries or regions where we do not currently have representation. See your list of current resellers. In order to become an authorized reseller, you must demonstrate a history of sales, experience in the field of blindness or disability, and the highest ethical standards. We require you to participate in a set of interviews with our staff, possibly a personal visit by one of our staff members to your offices, and your assent to sign our reseller agreement. Please contact John.Price@Perkins.org or Laura.Matz@Perkins.org if you are interested in finding out more or beginning the process.

Shipping questions

How much does it cost to ship a product?
From a destination within the United States to a destination within the United States:
Within the United States, any product that is utilized by a person who is blind will ship free, classified as ‘Free Matter for the Blind’. This does not apply to all products sold by Perkins Products publications which are usually used by teachers and all the merchandise in the Perkins Fun category do not qualify for free shipping. Shipping costs are dependent on the size and the weight of the order as well as the shipping distance. Our website will calculate any applicable shipping costs for you.

For destinations outside the United States:
For international destinations, and for orders over 30 pounds, we will quote you a shipping cost, utilizing either UPS or various international shipping agents. For more information contact Richard.Rafferty@Perkins.org or phone +1-617-972-7308.

How long will it take to receive my shipment?
Within the United States, there are 3 possible methods of shipping which determine the length of time and the cost.

  • Free Matter for the Blind is free but could take up to 3 weeks, depending on how far the destination is from our offices in Massachusetts.
  • UPS Ground will take anywhere from 2 to 5 days, again depending on how far the destination is from our offices in Massachusetts.
  • For express service, faster than UPS Ground, please contact Richard.Rafferty@Perkins.org or phone +1-617-972-7308

To ship to destinations outside of the United States, the length of time is dependent on the size of the order and the final destination. Please contact Richard.Rafferty@Perkins.org or phone +1-617-972-7308 for more information.

Perkins Products / Howe Press

I thought you were called Howe Press. What is Perkins Products?
Perkins Products is simply the new name for Howe Press. After much deliberation we decided that the name Howe Press, while highly recognizable as the manufacturer of the world-renowned Perkins Brailler, does not adequately describe the range of products that we sell including books, electronic devices with which to listen to all types of media, and other assistive devices for people who are blind or have multiple disabilities. The name Perkins Products, like the name Howe Press, continues to stand for the highest quality products backed by the venerable Perkins School for the Blind.
